Phase III of the Clear Creek Pedestrian / Bicycle Trail connects previously completed trail sections to the Gary L. Haller Trail located in the Mill Creek Streamway Park.
The Clear Creek Trail provides an alternate form of transportation to and from residential, retail, and commercial developments, and schools in western Shawnee. The trail promotes and expands the City’s Safe Routes to School program, and provides residents the opportunity to walk or bicycle, in lieu of traditional motorized vehicles, resulting in emissions reduction and improved air quality.
Phase III includes approximately one-mile of 10-foot wide concrete trail for walking, jogging, and bicycling. The trail will start at Woodland Drive and extend east to the Gary L. Haller Trail. A bridge over Clear Creek will be constructed to connect Phase III to the Gary L. Haller Trail.
Pedestrian and bicycle amenities will be installed along the trail including native stone trail heads, benches, informational kiosk, water bottle filler, and a bicycle repair station.
The project is funded by the City of Shawnee, Transportation Enhancement Program funds (Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities Category and Scenic and Environmental Category), Congestion Mitigation-Air Quality (CMAQ) funds, and a contribution from Johnson County Park and Recreation District. The Transportation Enhancement program is a federal program administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT).
